This followed the &#8220;Universit\u00e9s 2000&#8221; plan launched by French Education Minister Lionel Jospin in 1990. Spread over Arras, B\u00e9thune, Douai, Lens and Li\u00e9vin, the Universit\u00e9 d&#8217;Artois comprises a total of 8 UFR (Unit\u00e9 de Formation et de Recherche) and two IUT (Institut Universitaire Technologique), 7 laboratories and 4 Domaines d&#8217;Int\u00e9r\u00eat Majeur (DIM). In Arras, the university cluster was inaugurated by former senator and mayor L\u00e9on Fatous and first president Alain Lottin, and historically includes the<strong>History<\/strong>, Geography and Heritage<strong>UFR<\/strong>, the<strong>Foreign Languages UFR<\/strong>, the<strong>Literature and Arts UFR<\/strong> and the<strong>EGASS<\/strong> (Economics, Management, Administration and Social Sciences). Courses from BAC+1 to Bac +8 (Licence, Master, Doctorat) are available for students from all over the world.<\/p>\n<h2>The UFR of History, Geography and Heritage of Arras<\/h2>\n<p>Enabling<strong>students<\/strong> to<strong>study history or geography<\/strong>, this UFR in Arras also prepares them for teaching competitions such as the CAPES (Certificat d&#8217;aptitude au professorat de l&#8217;enseignement du second degr\u00e9) and the agr\u00e9gation interne. Through lectures and tutorials, students have the opportunity to perfect their knowledge with renowned university professors such as Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Turpin and Agn\u00e8s Walch. For those interested in teaching history, it&#8217;s also an opportunity to tackle themes such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arrasville.fr\/en\/history\/\">local history<\/a> from the Master&#8217;s level upwards.<\/p>\n<h2>Foreign Languages Department<\/h2>\n<p>At the heart of the Cit\u00e9 Universitaire, you&#8217;ll find the<strong>UFR for foreign languages<\/strong>. It accounts for around a third of the students on the Arras site. There are two main streams for students in this UFR, namely the following bachelor&#8217;s degrees :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Langues, Litt\u00e9ratures, Civilisations \u00c9trang\u00e8res et R\u00e9gionale (LLCER &#8211; foreign and regional languages, literatures and civilizations),<\/strong> which enables students to study languages such as English, Spanish and Chinese, and deepen their linguistic knowledge and skills ;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Langues \u00c9trang\u00e8res Appliqu\u00e9es (LEA),<\/strong> which allows students to study two languages at the same time : English &amp; Chinese or English &amp; Arabic or English &amp; German or English &amp; Spanish.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>UFR of Letters and Arts<\/h2>\n<p>Historically, the UFR de Lettres et Arts prepares students for teaching competitions such as the CAPES, the Agr\u00e9gation interne de Lettres Modernes and the CAPLP (Certificat d&#8217;aptitude au professorat de lyc\u00e9e professionnel) Lettres-Histoire. There are two research centers: Textes et Cultures and Grammatica. Digital resources and the university library (named Alain Lottin after the French historian and President of the University of Artois) are available to students.
